Polluted Creek in Caddo County Kills Over 30 Cows

State Officials Suspect Oil and Gas Operations

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission released a statement confirming suspicions that oil and gas activity caused water contamination in Five Mile Creek near Eakly. Rancher Mike Loula lost most of the cattle, over 30 head, after they drank the tainted water.

Ranchers reported seeing saltwater bubbling near the creek and running into it. As a precaution, the surviving cattle have been moved away from the water source.

Cleanup and Accountability Efforts Underway

Officials have started removing the polluted water and say they are working to determine who is responsible. “Watching the cattle suffer was awful,” Loula said.
