Governor Calls for Local Control
Governor Kevin Stitt is backing the Trump administration’s plan to eliminate FEMA and instead provide states with large block grants to handle natural and manmade disasters.
Stitt argues that Oklahoma can respond more effectively — and at lower cost — without federal agencies directing recovery efforts.
What Stitt Said
“The state knows best how to respond when disaster strikes,” Stitt said. “We can act faster, smarter, and spend less money than FEMA.”
The proposal would shift disaster planning and recovery authority from the federal government to the states. Critics warn it could create inconsistencies in emergency response across the nation.
