Mike Gundy Fired After 20 Seasons
Oklahoma State University has parted ways with head coach Mike Gundy, ending his 20-year run as the winningest coach in school history. The move comes after a pair of major early-season losses and a disappointing record last year.
Gundy’s Legacy at OSU
Gundy’s history with the Cowboys stretches back to his playing days in the late 1980s, when he took the field alongside stars Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders. As head coach, he delivered a Big 12 championship, multiple 10-win seasons, and a bowl victory record unmatched in school history.
However, recent struggles placed pressure on the program. Athletic Director Chad Weiberg said the "decision was not easy, but the program needed a new direction."
Interim Coach Named
Offensive coordinator Doug Meacham has been named interim head coach for the remainder of the season. OSU’s administration has already launched a national search for a permanent replacement, though no timeline has been set.

Fans and alumni are divided — some praising Gundy’s legacy while others say the program had stalled and needed change.
