Oklahoma Text Message Scam Warning Issued

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) is warning residents about an Oklahoma text message scam warning involving fake messages claiming to be from the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Authorities say the messages falsely claim recipients owe fines for traffic violations and threaten driver’s license suspension if payment is not made immediately.

Officials say the scam messages typically include links directing people to fraudulent payment sites.

Oklahoma Text Message Scam Warning Targets Drivers

The Oklahoma text message scam warning comes as law enforcement reports an increase in so-called “smishing” scams targeting Oklahoma residents.

According to Oklahoma Department of Public Safety, the agency does not collect traffic fines through text messages.

Officials warn residents not to click any links, provide personal information, or send money in response to these messages.

Officials Urge Residents to Report Messages

Authorities say anyone receiving one of the scam messages should delete it and report it as spam through their phone carrier.

Residents can also verify official information through Service Oklahoma, which manages driver licensing and vehicle services for the state.

Officials say anyone who has already clicked a suspicious link or shared financial information should immediately secure bank accounts and report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission.
