OG&E Requests Commissioner Todd Hiett Be Removed From Utility Case
Utility Argues Comments Show Bias
OG&E has formally asked the Oklahoma Corporation Commission to recuse Commissioner Todd Hiett from proceedings involving the utility’s proposal to build two new natural gas turbines. The $506 million project would be paid for by ratepayers.
Commissioner Previously Called OG&E a Monopoly
OG&E argues Hiett’s repeated statements undermine his neutrality. During earlier testimony, Hiett referred to the utility as a “monopoly” and criticized company mailers sent to customers, calling them “propaganda,” according to filings reported by several Oklahoma energy outlets.
Commission Still Hearing Testimony
The case remains active as regulators review whether the new turbines are necessary to support Oklahoma’s electric grid. OG&E says the project is needed to replace aging units and meet peak-demand reliability requirements.
Decision Expected in Coming Weeks
It is unclear when the Corporation Commission will rule on either the recusal request or the turbine project itself.
