Oklahoma Residents to See Reduced OG&E Bills
Some good news from OG&E — the average residential customer will soon see cheaper electricity bills. The Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company announced a five percent reduction in the charges for the fuel it uses to generate electricity.
That means the average customer can expect a monthly decrease of nearly seven dollars, a welcome relief for many households as utility costs typically rise heading into colder months.
Fuel Cost Adjustment Leads to Lower Rates
According to the company, this rate change comes from an adjustment in the fuel cost recovery — the portion of a bill that reflects the actual cost of natural gas and other fuels used to generate power. These costs are passed directly to customers without profit for the utility, meaning lower fuel costs can quickly translate to lower bills.
The 5% decrease applies to the fuel cost component of the bill, not the total rate. However, the impact will be noticeable for residential customers, especially those managing tight budgets.
Relief During a Time of Rising Costs
For many Oklahoma families, this change provides some much-needed financial relief. The timing is significant, as colder weather often drives up household energy use. The $7 average monthly savings could help offset other rising living expenses, including groceries and heating costs.
OG&E serves more than 880,000 customers in Oklahoma and western Arkansas. Company officials said they continue to monitor market conditions to keep rates as stable as possible while maintaining reliable service.
Commitment to Affordable and Reliable Energy
The company emphasized its ongoing efforts to manage fuel expenses efficiently, investing in both traditional generation and renewable sources to diversify its portfolio. Officials also reminded customers about OG&E’s energy-saving programs, including rebates and efficiency tips available on its website.
The rate decrease is expected to take effect next month, automatically appearing on December billing statements for residential customers.
