Residents Await Turnpike “Big Reveal”

CLEVELAND COUNTY, Okla. — Homeowners in eastern Cleveland County are bracing for answers as the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA) prepares to unveil its updated turnpike route. The announcement is set for this afternoon, with a livestream scheduled for 2 p.m.

The new route comes after the agency faced backlash and legal challenges over its original proposal, which drew heavy criticism for passing too close to Lake Thunderbird, a major water source and recreation area.

Property Owners in Limbo

Many residents fear the new plan may still force them to sell their homes or land. Community groups have voiced frustration with the lack of transparency and communication during the planning stages.

OTA officials argue the project is necessary to improve traffic flow and support population growth in the region. However, property owners say the uncertainty has left them unable to plan for the future.
