Tulsa Police Seek Additional Victims After Nurse Charged With Sexual Assault

A Tulsa nurse charged with sexual assault is now at the center of multiple investigations, and Tulsa Police believe there could be additional victims who have not yet come forward.

James Beaver, who worked as a floating nurse at multiple hospitals in the Tulsa area, was charged with rape by instrumentation earlier this month. Investigators say they are also examining a second reported sexual assault and are asking anyone with information to contact the department's Special Victims Unit.

Tulsa Nurse Charged With Sexual Assault After Hospital Investigation

According to News On 6, the first case stems from an alleged assault at Hillcrest South Hospital last fall.

Court records state a woman told investigators she was being treated in the emergency room and had requested medication. She said Beaver entered her room and sexually assaulted her while she pretended to be asleep.

The patient later reported the alleged assault to another nurse and underwent a sexual assault examination.

Tulsa Police said evidence collected during that exam led investigators to seek an arrest warrant.

"This is an absolute tragic case; someone was victimized when they're in their most defenseless location," Tulsa Police Captain Richard Meulenberg told News On 6.

An arrest is an allegation, not a conviction.

Investigators Examine Second Reported Assault

Tulsa Police are also investigating a second reported assault involving Beaver that allegedly occurred in 2024 at Saint Francis Hospital.

According to an affidavit, a patient told investigators she awoke to find Beaver rubbing himself against her and touching her inappropriately while she was hospitalized. Police say the alleged assault continued for more than 15 minutes before it ended.

Investigators said DNA evidence connected to that case is still being processed.

Because Beaver worked as a floating nurse, police say he provided care at multiple medical facilities throughout the Tulsa area. Detectives are concerned additional patients may have encountered him and are encouraging anyone with information to contact investigators.

Hospitals Respond As Investigation Continues

Hillcrest South Hospital released a statement saying the organization takes patient safety seriously and confirmed Beaver is no longer employed by the hospital.

Saint Francis Health System said it received a complaint involving Beaver in July 2024, immediately launched an internal investigation and notified the Tulsa Police Department.

The hospital said neither its own investigation nor reviews conducted by the Tulsa Police Department and the Tulsa County District Attorney's Office at that time found evidence to substantiate the allegation.

Beaver's attorney declined to comment on the case but emphasized that her client is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Tulsa Police say the investigation remains active as detectives continue working to determine whether there are additional victims connected to the case.
