OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — SSM Health is launching a new program aimed at addressing the state’s nursing shortage, offering free tuition to nursing students who commit to working for the organization after graduation.

How It Works

The program begins with online classes designed to accommodate working adults or career changers. Once students graduate, SSM will provide reimbursement for student loans and ensure job placement within its system.

A Lifeline for Future Nurses

“This nursing program starts with online classes, offering flexibility for students who may already be working,”said Terry Bear, SSM Regional Chief Nursing Officer.

Why the Nursing Program Matters

Oklahoma continues to face a severe shortage of qualified nurses, with hospitals relying heavily on travel nurses and overtime. Officials hope this initiative will build a sustainable pipeline of trained professionals.
