A man who served the state in a much different political climate, has passed away. Fred Harris was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1964 and served eight years before taking over the Democratic party where he changed rules to include more women and minorities. He ran for President twice. He retired from public life to teach in New Mexico. He was 94 years old.
