Drone School Safety Technology Demonstrated at Deer Creek
A new drone school safety technology system designed to respond to active threats was recently demonstrated at Deer Creek Public Schools.
According to Oklahoma Farm Report, Farm Director KC Sheperd observed the demonstration involving Campus Guardian Angel, a company developing drone-based response systems to protect school campuses.
Drone School Safety Technology Aims for Rapid Response
Officials with Campus Guardian Angel say the drones are placed around campuses and can respond quickly once a threat is confirmed.
Director of Tactical Operations Khristof Oborski said the goal is rapid response.
“We want to be able to be on the shooter within 15 seconds of verifying that it’s a legitimate threat,” Oborski explained in comments reported by Oklahoma Farm Report.
System Designed for Rural School Districts
Developers say the drone school safety technology is designed to be affordable for public schools, including rural districts.
The system can deploy deterrents such as gel-based pepper spray or other tools intended to slow a suspect until law enforcement arrives.
Company officials say they are currently looking for pilot school districts in Oklahoma to demonstrate the technology.
