Perry, OK-Incident Details and Emergency Response
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that 45-year-old Cody Folsom of Perry drowned Sunday morning while attempting to swim across a private pond in Noble County. According to the patrol, Folsom went under for reasons that remain unclear and did not resurface. No Flotation Device, Possible Contributing Factors
Authorities noted Folsom was not wearing a flotation device.
Open-water swims can be hazardous due to uneven depths, cold-water shock, unseen underwater obstacles, or muscle cramps — any of which can lead to sudden drowning even for experienced swimmers.
“We urge residents to exercise caution around private ponds and open water—always wear a life jacket and never swim alone.”
Community Safety Tips and Resources
Designate a responsible watcher when people swim in private ponds.
Post clear signage at private ponds warning of hazards.
Keep flotation devices and rescue equipment nearby.
If a person goes under, call 9-1-1 immediately and do not attempt risky solo rescues.
