Parents Now Charged With First-Degree Murder in 2-Year-Old’s Death
District Attorney Upgrades Charges After Review
The parents of a two-year-old child who was mauled to death by the family dog are now facing first-degree murder charges, following a review by the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office.
Originally, Jorden McGuire (34) and Darci Lambert (24) had been arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Authorities Say Child Was Left With Dangerous, Malnourished Dog
Prosecutors say the parents:
Maliciously failed to protect their child
Knowingly allowed the child to remain near a dangerous animal
Were fully aware of the serious risk of harm
The dog involved was described as malnourished and aggressive
Case Remains Under Judicial Review
Both parents remain in custody as the case proceeds through the court system. No trial date has been announced. The case has drawn statewide attention due to the severity of the charges and the circumstances of the child’s death.
