Owen Heinecke NCAA Lawsuit Seeks Extra Season

According to The Oklahoman, Heinecke filed a preliminary injunction in Cleveland County District Court on March 23, 2026, challenging the NCAA’s eligibility ruling.
Eligibility Dispute at Center of Owen Heinecke NCAA Lawsuit
The Owen Heinecke NCAA lawsuit centers on the NCAA counting 15 minutes of play in three lacrosse games at Ohio State in 2021 as a full season of eligibility.
Heinecke later transferred to the University of Oklahoma (OU), where he missed the 2022 season due to injury and went on to have a breakout 2025 season with 74 tackles and Second-Team All-SEC honors.
The NCAA denied both his initial petition and appeal, prompting legal action.
Hearing Set Ahead of NFL Draft
The Owen Heinecke NCAA lawsuit now heads to an emergency hearing scheduled for April 16 in Cleveland County District Court, just days before the NFL Draft.
Legal experts say similar cases, including recent rulings involving college athletes, could influence the outcome.
Heinecke is continuing preparations for the NFL but has indicated he would consider returning to OU if granted another year of eligibility.
