According to the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency Housing Needs Assessment, Oklahoma has more than 220,000 vacant housing units, including nearly 39,000 rental properties. However, many of those units are not actually livable or available.

Costs Keep Housing Out of Reach

The Oklahoma housing crisis is also tied to rising costs.

Data from the Oklahoma Department of Commerce shows increasing construction costs, insurance rates, and interest rates are making it difficult to build or repair affordable housing.

As a result, even with vacant units, affordable housing in Oklahoma remains out of reach for many families.
