NORMAN — For the fourth time in five years, the University of Oklahoma robotics team has claimed first place at the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC), held this spring at University of Michigan-Dearborn.
How “Twistopher” Won
The team’s autonomous robot, Twistopher, successfully navigated a demanding outdoor obstacle course in 2 minutes and 6 seconds, maneuvering through uneven terrain, narrow passages, and unexpected obstacles. It beat out 28 international teams, showcasing OU’s leadership in robotics engineering and AI.
“Twistopher reflects our students’ creativity and technical skill,”said Dr. Elena Moreno, faculty advisor.“Their dedication enables OU to set the standard in global robotics competitions.”
Significance of the Win
IGVC is considered one of the top collegiate robotics competitions worldwide, testing autonomy, perception, and control systems. OU’s repeated success highlights the strength of its robotics curriculum and research infrastructure.
With this victory, the team is advancing research in autonomous vehicle technologies with funding proposals underway for next-gen sensors, AI path planning, and real-world applications in agriculture and search-and-rescue.
