Stitt Trump Senate Meeting Discusses Senate Vacancy

An important Stitt Trump Senate meeting took place in Washington, D.C., as Oklahoma prepares for a possible vacancy in the U.S. Senate.

Governor Kevin Stitt met with President Donald Trump on March 12 to discuss the upcoming opening of U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin’s seat if Mullin is confirmed as Secretary of Homeland Security.

Stitt Trump Senate Meeting Focuses on Appointment

During the Stitt Trump Senate meeting, Stitt said he plans to make a swift decision on who will temporarily fill the Senate seat.

Under Oklahoma law, the governor appoints a replacement if a senator leaves office before the end of a term.

According to KOSU, a 2021 state law requires the appointee to sign an affidavit pledging they will not run in the special election for the seat later in 2026.

Political Stakes Remain High

The Stitt Trump Senate meeting comes amid ongoing speculation about potential candidates and the future of the seat.

Reports from Politico say the meeting was viewed as an important moment between the governor and the White House as the situation surrounding the Senate seat continues to develop.
