Fatal Collision Under Investigation

Authorities confirm one person has died after being struck by a freight train near Mulhall late Sunday. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the collision happened near Highway 77 and County Road 65, a rural crossing commonly used by local residents and agricultural traffic.

Troopers responded to the scene after a train crew reported the impact. The victim’s identity has now been released to the public.

Details Remain Limited

OHP has not yet released information about how the person came to be on or near the tracks. Authorities often evaluate whether a victim was attempting to cross, walking along the tracks, or unaware of the approaching train — but no conclusions have been shared.

The railroad company involved is cooperating fully with the investigation, providing event recorder data and crew statements.

Train Safety Concerns Statewide

Oklahoma records dozens of train-related incidents each year, especially in rural areas where crossings may be unlit or lack warning arms. Safety officials remind drivers and pedestrians to stay alert near tracks, avoid shortcuts across railroad property, and never assume a train can stop quickly — even at low speeds.

Local authorities say the area where the collision occurred sees regular train traffic, especially at night.

Next Steps

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office and OHP will continue to review evidence from the scene. Toxicology reports, standard in fatal incidents, are pending.

More information will be released when the investigation concludes.
