Oklahoma Lawmakers Face Stark Truth About Hunger Crisis

Nearly One Million Rely on Food Stamps

Jessica Dietrich with Hunger Free Oklahoma

Jessica Dietrich with Hunger Free Oklahoma told lawmakers that "900,000 Oklahomans depend on food stamps to survive, including more than 223,000 children. Despite this assistance, many still don’t get enough to eat."

State Ranks Among Worst in the Nation

According to American Health Rankings, Oklahoma ranks 45th nationally for food insecurity and 46th for overall health—two indicators that are closely tied together.

Hunger’s Impact on Families

Dietrich noted that food insecurity affects everything from student performance in schools to long-term health outcomes for families. She urged lawmakers to address systemic barriers that leave families unable to access nutritious meals.
