Mullin DHS Nomination Advances to Full Senate
The Mullin DHS nomination is moving forward after a narrow committee vote in Washington.
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee voted 8–7 to advance Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin’s nomination to lead the Department of Homeland Security.
The Mullin DHS nomination now heads to the full U.S. Senate for a final confirmation vote, which could happen as soon as next week.
Key Votes in the Mullin DHS Nomination
The Mullin DHS nomination vote largely followed party lines, with two key exceptions:
Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) voted in favor, providing the deciding vote
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) voted against the nomination, citing concerns over temperament
All other Republicans supported the nomination, while remaining Democrats opposed it.
What Comes Next
If confirmed, Mullin would replace former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and take over leadership of one of the nation’s largest federal agencies.
The Mullin DHS nomination comes after a contentious confirmation hearing that included questions about leadership style, immigration policy, and federal agency operations.
