Oklahoma Congressman Tom Cole Warns of Looming Government Shutdown
Oklahoma’s 4th District Congressman Tom Cole says Congress is dangerously close to a government shutdown. With just days left before funding runs out, Cole is warning that lawmakers are “way behind schedule” on reaching a budget deal.
Tom Cole calls for short-term budget agreement
Cole told reporters he favors a short-term budget extension to avoid the economic chaos of a shutdown. “Doing something that puts the final budget deal off for months only ensures nothing will happen for months,” he said.
The veteran lawmaker also pointed to the 2018–2019 shutdown as a reminder of how quickly public confidence and federal operations can spiral when Congress fails to act. Federal workers, military personnel, and key public services could all be impacted again if no agreement is reached.
Government Shutdown would impact Oklahoma communities
Oklahoma communities could feel the pinch first in areas like food assistance, federal grants, and airport security. Cole says the situation is avoidable if both parties show urgency this week.
