Oklahoma City Police Officer On Leave After Fatal Standoff Shooting

An overnight Oklahoma City police shooting left a woman dead after authorities say she opened fire on tactical officers from inside a southwest Oklahoma City apartment during a lengthy standoff.

The incident began Tuesday night and stretched into the early morning hours Wednesday as police attempted to negotiate with the armed woman inside the apartment complex.

According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, officers first responded around 9:00 p.m. to reports of shots fired near Southwest 59th Street and Douglas Avenue.

Investigators say the escalating Oklahoma City police shooting forced officers to evacuate nearby residents while tactical teams attempted to safely resolve the situation.

Oklahoma City Police Shooting Followed Hours Of Negotiations

Responding officers reportedly encountered an armed woman firing a weapon from inside her apartment after arriving at the scene.

Authorities say the woman barricaded herself inside the apartment, prompting police to establish a perimeter and bring in specialized tactical and negotiation teams.

According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, officers spent several hours attempting to negotiate peacefully with the woman during the overnight standoff.

Residents living nearby were evacuated from surrounding apartments as a precaution while police secured the area.

Officials say the prolonged Oklahoma City police shooting situation created significant safety concerns for both officers and nearby residents.

Woman Opened Fire On Tactical Team

Police say the standoff escalated around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday morning when the woman allegedly began firing gunshots out of an apartment window toward tactical officers positioned outside.

According to OKCPD Public Information Officer Captain Valerie Littlejohn, one officer returned fire during the exchange.

The woman was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed no officers or civilians were injured during the overnight Oklahoma City police shooting incident.

Crime scene investigators remained at the apartment complex for several hours Wednesday morning gathering evidence and processing the scene.

Officer Placed On Administrative Leave

The officer involved in the fatal Oklahoma City police shooting has been placed on routine administrative leave while the investigation continues.

Police say the woman’s identity has not yet been publicly released pending notification of family members.

According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation protocols, officer-involved shootings typically trigger detailed investigative reviews involving evidence collection, witness interviews, and forensic analysis.

Officials have not yet released additional details regarding what led to the original disturbance call Tuesday evening.
