Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond is taking new steps to strengthen government transparency and make it easier for residents to access public information.
Armed with authority granted under a new state law, Drummond has established the Public Access Counselor Unit, a division dedicated to helping Oklahomans who believe they were wrongly denied an Open Records Act request.
As part of the initiative, the Attorney General’s office has launched an online complaint portal, giving citizens a direct way to file appeals without needing legal assistance. The portal is now live and accessible through the Attorney General’s official website.
“This is about empowering Oklahomans to hold their government accountable,” Drummond said. “Transparency is essential to public trust.”
The new system streamlines the process for reporting violations and ensures complaints are reviewed promptly by trained staff. State officials hope it will also encourage agencies to comply more fully with records laws.
