It sounds Just like movie Homeward Bound

Two dogs are back home in Calumet after being gone for 18 days and traveling over 15 hundred miles. Sugar and Susie were found in Virginia and a microchip in one of the dogs led to their owners Ty Elwood and family. Elwood jumped on a plane and drove the dogs the 15 hundred miles back home. The dogs escaped their yard and probably hitched a ride from a local truck stop before ending their journey on the east coast.
