One suspect injured, another in custody after wild chase
A high-speed chase that began in Choctaw ended dramatically in the Oklahoma River Tuesday night.
Police say officers attempted to stop a speeding vehicle that refused to pull over, leading to a pursuit that reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. The chase continued westbound along Interstate 40, weaving through traffic and construction zones.
Chase ends in the water
The suspects lost control near the Pennsylvania Avenue bridge, where the car went off the road and plunged into the river. One suspect leapt from the bridge in a desperate attempt to escape and suffered serious injuries.
Emergency crews pulled him from the water and rushed him to a local hospital. The second suspect surrendered without further incident.
Police investigation continues
Oklahoma City Police officers, along with dive teams, worked late into the night to recover the submerged vehicle. The car was completely underwater and towed out by early morning.
Authorities have not yet released the suspects’ names but confirmed both are in custody. Investigators are determining whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the chase.
Police say the pursuit endangered multiple drivers but credit coordination between departments for preventing greater harm.
