Markwayne Mullin Senate Replacement Decision Pending
Governor Kevin Stitt says he has not yet decided who will fill the upcoming vacancy in the U.S. Senate seat held by Senator Markwayne Mullin, even as speculation grows about potential candidates.
The Markwayne Mullin Senate replacement will be selected by the governor once Mullin officially leaves the position to take a role in the presidential cabinet.
Speaking with reporters, Stitt declined to identify who may ultimately be chosen for the post.
Names Reportedly On Governor’s Short List
According to reporting from The Oklahoman, several names have surfaced as possible candidates for the Markwayne Mullin Senate replacement.
The reported list includes former state Senator Nathan Dahm, David Ostrowe, the governor’s chief operating officer, and John O’Connor, a former Oklahoma attorney general.
The governor has not publicly confirmed any of the reported names.
Governor Has 30 Days to Make Appointment
Under Oklahoma law, the governor has 30 days to appoint a replacement once the Senate seat officially becomes vacant.
The individual chosen as the Markwayne Mullin Senate replacement would serve until voters elect a successor in a future election.
Until then, attention remains focused on who Governor Stitt will ultimately select for the high-profile position.
