Go To Green school safety system installed in Oklahoma district

A southern Oklahoma school district is the first in the state to install the Go To Green school safety system, a new technology designed to guide students and staff to safety during emergencies.

Marietta Public Schools recently implemented the Go To Green school safety system across its three campuses.

Go To Green school safety system uses color-coded lights

The Go To Green school safety system relies on color-coded LED lighting and sensors to provide immediate direction during emergencies such as active shooter incidents or severe weather.

If a gunshot is detected, the sensor closest to the sound turns red to signal the location of the threat.

At the same time, other lights throughout the building begin blinking green, guiding students and staff toward the safest exit routes.

School safety guidelines and emergency preparedness resources are available through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Go To Green school safety system provides instant guidance

Officials say the Go To Green school safety system is designed to deliver silent and intuitive directions during high-stress situations.

The lighting system updates in real time if a threat moves through the building, helping occupants avoid danger while finding the safest path to safety.

Supporters say the visual approach can be especially helpful when people are experiencing high adrenaline and may struggle to process verbal instructions.

School emergency planning resources are maintained by the U.S. Department of Education School Safety Office.

Technology designed to improve emergency response

Developers say the Go To Green school safety system aims to improve emergency response times and potentially save lives.

The system is also designed to assist during severe weather situations by directing people to designated safe areas inside the school.
