Rogers County Jail Release Error
The Rogers County Sheriff’s Office says a mistake led to the wrong inmate being released from the Rogers County Jail on Monday.
Authorities say the mix-up happened during a routine release process at the Claremore jail facility, when jail staff mistakenly released an inmate whose name was similar to another inmate scheduled to be released.
The error was quickly discovered after the man left the facility.
Inmate Found Nearby in Claremore
According to the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office, deputies located the mistakenly released inmate a short time later in Claremore, just a couple of blocks away from the jail.
Law enforcement officers took the man back into custody without incident.
Officials say the inmate was returned to the Rogers County Jail shortly after being located.
Name Similarity Led to Mix-Up
Sheriff’s officials say the mistake occurred because the inmate’s name was similar to the name of another inmate who had been scheduled for release.
The Rogers County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged the error and said the situation was resolved quickly once staff realized the wrong person had been released.
Authorities have not indicated whether any procedural changes will be made following the incident.
Investigation and Review Underway
Jail officials say they are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the mistaken release to determine how the error occurred.
Incidents involving wrongful inmate releases are rare but can happen when booking records or names closely match during processing.
Officials say safeguards are typically in place to prevent such errors and ensure inmates are properly identified before release.
