Former Tulsa Teacher Faces Federal Child Pornography Charges

A former Tulsa-area middle school teacher is now facing federal charges after investigators allegedly discovered thousands of files containing child sexual abuse material on electronic devices seized during an earlier state investigation.

Federal prosecutors have charged Zachary Christian Speegle, 32, with receipt of child pornography and possession of or access with intent to view child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma.

The case marks a significant escalation from state charges filed earlier this year and follows a joint investigation involving local and federal authorities.

Federal prosecutors are now seeking to keep Speegle in custody while the case moves forward through the court system.

Former Tulsa Teacher Originally Arrested On State Charges

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office Northern District of Oklahoma, the investigation into the former Tulsa teacher began in February 2026.

Authorities say the Tulsa Police Department Child Crisis Unit launched an investigation after receiving reports involving alleged inappropriate communications and conduct with a 12-year-old student.

Speegle, who previously worked at Tulsa Honor Academy and Dove Science Academy, was arrested on March 5, 2026.

State charges filed against him included:

  • Lewd Molestation

  • Aggravated Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material

Court records indicate Speegle was released on bond following the initial arrest.

However, investigators continued examining electronic devices seized during the investigation, leading to additional findings that later attracted federal attention.

The allegations remain accusations, and Speegle is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Federal Investigation Reveals Thousands Of Alleged Files

The case against the former Tulsa teacher expanded significantly after federal authorities reviewed evidence collected during the investigation.

According to court filings, investigators allegedly discovered:

  • More than 8,000 files containing child pornography

  • More than 6,000 files described as child erotica

  • Material allegedly involving infants, toddlers, and prepubescent children

The investigation is being conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Tulsa Police Department.

According to the Homeland Security Investigations, federal child exploitation investigations frequently involve forensic examinations of computers, phones, cloud storage, and digital media.

Federal prosecutors allege the evidence discovered on Speegle's devices warranted additional federal charges beyond those initially filed in state court.

The federal complaint now carries the potential for substantial prison sentences if convictions are obtained.

Prosecutors Seeking Pretrial Detention

Federal prosecutors have asked the court to keep the former Tulsa teacher in custody pending trial.

According to court documents, prosecutors argue Speegle poses a danger to the community.

Among the allegations cited in detention filings:

  • Investigators reportedly recovered children's underwear from his possession

  • Authorities allege the items belonged to children ages 4 and 6

  • Prosecutors referenced text messages allegedly sent to a minor

  • Investigators argue the evidence demonstrates an ongoing risk to children

According to the Tulsa Police Department, the investigation remains active.

Speegle remains in custody awaiting a federal detention hearing.

His next scheduled appearance related to the state charges is currently set for June 30.

Investigators are encouraging anyone with information or knowledge of potential additional victims to contact the Tulsa Police Department Child Crisis Unit at 918-596-9222.
