Love County Homicide Investigation Underway After Missing Dallas Man Found Dead

A Love County homicide investigation is underway after authorities discovered the burned body of a missing Dallas man in a rural field near the Texas-Oklahoma border.

According to the Love County Sheriff's Office, emergency crews responding to a grass fire on July 30 discovered the victim's charred remains along Highway 32, west of State Highway 96. An autopsy later determined the man had been shot multiple times before his body was transported to Oklahoma, where investigators say it was set on fire in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence.

Love County Homicide Investigation Connects Victim To Dallas Missing Person Case

The Love County Sheriff's Office said deputies and firefighters responded to a reported grass fire in southern Oklahoma on July 30, where they discovered a burned body in a rural field.

Investigators were able to identify the victim by comparing visible tattoos with law enforcement databases. Authorities determined the man had recently been reported missing to the Dallas Police Department after family members became concerned when he failed to make contact on his birthday on July 29.

Although next of kin have been notified, Oklahoma authorities have not publicly released the victim's identity.

An autopsy performed by the Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the victim suffered four gunshot wounds to the chest, and the death was officially ruled a homicide.

Investigators believe the victim was killed at another location before being transported across state lines into Love County, where his body was abandoned and set on fire.
