How the Scam Worked
Attorney General Gentner Drummond says his office stopped a deceptive fundraising operation that scammed donors nationwide under the guise of helping women fight breast cancer.
The company, Kars-R-Us.com, solicited millions of dollars in charitable donations on behalf of the United Breast Cancer Foundation. Yet of the more than $45 million raised, only $126,000 went toward actual breast cancer screenings.
Settlement Reached in Oklahoma
Drummond reached a proposed settlement with the owners of Kars-R-Us.com, halting the scheme and ensuring stricter accountability for similar nonprofits moving forward. His office emphasized that Oklahoma families—like families across the country—deserve transparency when they give to causes as personal and urgent as cancer treatment.
“This was deception at the highest level,” Drummond said. “Donors believed they were paying for medical care. Instead, their money lined pockets.”
A Warning to Donors
The case serves as a warning for Oklahomans and donors nationwide to research organizations before contributing. Drummond urged residents to check an organization’s financials and history with the Better Business Bureau or Charity Navigator before making donations.
