Beggs Schools Tornado Damage Reported
Officials with Beggs Public Schools say Beggs schools tornado damage from the March 6 storm destroyed several district facilities and forced major adjustments on campus.
District leaders say the softball and baseball fields were totaled, while the bus barn and maintenance shop were decimated. The storm has been classified as an EF-3 tornado by the National Weather Service.
Bus Fleet and Middle School Hit Hard
The Beggs schools tornado damage also severely impacted student transportation and school operations.
Officials say nearly the entire fleet of route buses was damaged, leaving all but one inoperable. The district also says Beggs Middle School suffered major structural damage and will not be used for the rest of the school year.
School leaders report the north end of the building took the hardest hit, with damage also affecting utilities and campus infrastructure.
Students Will Remain On Campus
Despite the Beggs schools tornado damage, administrators say students will continue attending classes on campus while recovery plans move forward.
District officials say middle school students will be relocated, and more details will be shared with parents as plans are finalized. Recovery and safety efforts continue as crews work with local responders and Okmulgee County Emergency Management.
