An acclaimed journalist whose coverage of Karen Silkwood’s work at the Kerr-McGee plant in Crescent sparked national attention has died. Former New York Times reporter David Burnham was set to meet Silkwood in November 1974 to expose nuclear safety issues at the plutonium plant. Silkwood never made it to the meeting with documents, instead she died in a car crash along State Highway 74 in Crescent. The story of her work at the plant inspired the 1983 movie, Silkwood. Burnham’s death comes a few weeks before the 50th anniversary of Silkwood’s death, he was 91.
