West Nile Virus on the Rise in Oklahoma

Health officials say Oklahoma is seeing an alarming increase in West Nile virus infections, with 32 counties reporting cases in both humans and animals. To date, 33 human infections have been confirmed.


Metros Among Hardest Hit With Virus

Cases are being reported across the state, including Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Norman. The virus, spread by mosquito bites, can cause severe illness and even death, especially among the elderly or those with weakened immune systems.


Officials Stress Prevention

The Oklahoma State Department of Health is urging residents to wear insect repellent, avoid outdoor activity at dusk and dawn, and eliminate standing water where mosquitoes breed.
