Father Accused Of Shooting Son’s Alleged Abuser Returns To Court
A high-profile Woodward County criminal case involving allegations of child sexual abuse, attempted murder, and protective order violations continues moving through the Oklahoma court system this week as multiple defendants prepare for upcoming hearings and jury trials.
According to the Woodward County District Court, Wayland Martin is scheduled to appear Thursday, May 28, 2026, for a motions hearing connected to the ongoing investigation.
The case has drawn major attention across Oklahoma because investigators allege Martin became involved after learning his young son had allegedly been sexually abused.
Wayland Martin Faces Shooting Charges In Woodward County Case
Court records show Wayland Martin currently faces two felony counts of shooting with intent to kill along with allegations involving violations of a protective order.
According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the case began in June 2025 after Krista Fizer reportedly discovered signs of trauma involving her 16-month-old son.
Investigators say a pediatric sexual assault examination later determined the injuries were consistent with sexual abuse allegedly occurring while the child was in the care of Fizer’s live-in boyfriend, Tyler Valdez.
Valdez later secured an emergency protective order after reportedly receiving threats tied to the allegations.
Less than 48 hours later, authorities say gunfire erupted at Valdez’s residence in Mooreland, Oklahoma.
According to investigators, Valdez survived despite being struck multiple times during the shooting.
Both Wayland Martin and Krista Fizer were later arrested in connection with the incident.
Court filings indicate both defendants have pleaded not guilty and deny pulling the trigger.
Separate Child Sexual Abuse Trial Scheduled
A separate criminal trial involving Tyler Valdez remains scheduled for June 15, 2026.
According to the Woodward County District Court, Valdez faces charges involving alleged sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12.
Meanwhile, Krista Fizer is also scheduled for a motions hearing Thursday.
She faces multiple felony allegations including:
Shooting with intent to kill
Conspiracy charges
Assault allegations
Protective order violations
Officials say Wayland Martin’s previously approved speedy trial setting was moved from May 18 to June 29, 2026.
Additional Jail Assault Charges Filed Against Martin
The ongoing Woodward County criminal case expanded further while Martin remained in custody awaiting trial.
According to Woodward County Jail investigation records, Martin was later accused of assaulting detention officers during a September 2025 altercation inside the jail.
A judge later ruled Martin would stand trial on two additional felony counts of assault and battery on a police officer connected to the alleged incident.
Officials expect additional motions, hearings, and pretrial proceedings to continue throughout the summer as the interconnected criminal cases move closer toward trial.
