Walmart Fires Suspect Arrested After Edmond And OKC Incidents
Police have arrested a suspect accused of intentionally setting multiple Walmart fires overnight at separate stores in Edmond and Oklahoma City.
Authorities say the man confessed to starting the early morning Walmart fires Thursday, triggering evacuations, heavy smoke damage, and temporary store closures across the metro.
The incidents unfolded across multiple retail locations between approximately 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m.
According to investigators, the series of Walmart fires involved both Walmart and Sam’s Club locations stretching from Edmond into northwest Oklahoma City.
Walmart Fires Sparked At Multiple Metro Locations
The first of the overnight Walmart fires was reported around 3:00 a.m. at the Edmond Walmart near Danforth Road and Santa Fe Avenue.
Investigators say the suspect later traveled south toward the Sam’s Club near North Pennsylvania Avenue and West Memorial Road in Oklahoma City.
According to authorities, the suspect attempted to ignite a fire inside the Sam’s Club location before employees and customers intervened, forcing him to leave the building.
Roughly one hour later, police say the suspect successfully started another of the Walmart fires involving clothing racks at the neighboring Walmart near Penn and Memorial.
The second incident immediately triggered emergency evacuations as smoke spread throughout portions of the store.
Walmart Fires Caused Heavy Smoke And Water Damage
Fire officials say automatic sprinkler systems helped quickly contain the Walmart fires, preventing more extensive structural damage and injuries.
No injuries have been reported at either location connected to the Walmart fires.
However, officials say heavy smoke and water damage impacted large sections of the Oklahoma City Walmart store.
According to the Oklahoma City Fire Department, preliminary damage estimates for the Oklahoma City location alone have already reached approximately $200,000.
Health inspectors with the Oklahoma City-County Health Department were also called to inspect food products exposed to smoke inside grocery areas of the store.
Walmart Fires Investigation Remains Active
Both impacted stores remain temporarily closed as crews continue cleanup, remediation, and damage assessments connected to the Walmart fires.
Police have not yet publicly released the suspect’s identity or additional details regarding possible motives behind the Walmart fires.
According to the Edmond Police Department, investigators continue working alongside Oklahoma City authorities to review surveillance footage and evidence tied to the overnight incidents.
Officials say additional charges could potentially follow as the investigation continues.
