OU Football Tailgating Returns With Free North Oval And New Reserved Options

The University of Oklahoma is bringing back its popular North Oval tailgating tradition this football season while adding a new premium option for fans looking for a turnkey gameday experience.

University officials announced the North Oval will once again remain free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis, allowing fans to bring their own tents, chairs and tailgating gear. At the same time, OU is introducing reserved tailgating packages at Boyd Lawn, giving Sooners fans the choice between a traditional do-it-yourself setup and a professionally managed experience.

University of Oklahoma Keeps North Oval Free For Fans

The University of Oklahoma said the decision follows the overwhelming popularity of public tailgating introduced during last year's football season.

Fans will once again be able to claim space on the North Oval at no cost and create their own gameday gathering with personal tents, chairs and tailgating equipment.

University President Joseph Harroz Jr. said the North Oval quickly became one of the most popular gathering places on campus, and the university wanted to preserve that tradition while expanding fan options.

The North Oval will also feature many of the activities that became favorites last season, including performances by the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band, mascot appearances, food trucks, giveaways and an LED videoboard showing select college football games.

Fans will also have access to indoor restrooms and dining facilities inside the Oklahoma Memorial Union, while Boomer Bash, the university's official alumni tailgate, will once again be held on the North Oval.

Boyd Lawn Offers New Premium Tailgating Experience

For fans looking for a more convenient gameday setup, the university is introducing reserved tailgating packages at Boyd Lawn, located near the Jones Family Welcome Center and Carpenter Hall.

The premium experience will be managed by REVELXP, which will provide professionally installed tents along with setup and teardown services.

Fans may also purchase optional food and beverage packages to create a complete tailgating experience without bringing their own equipment.

University officials say the new option is designed to complement—not replace—the free public tailgating experience available on the North Oval.

Supporters can choose whichever experience best fits their gameday traditions and group size.

Sooners Open Home Schedule In September

The Sooners will open their home football schedule against UTEP at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 4, giving fans their first opportunity to experience this year's updated tailgating options.

Officials encourage fans planning to use the North Oval to arrive early since public tailgating remains available on a first-come, first-served basis.
