Two Dead In Separate Oklahoma City Pedestrian Crashes, One Driver Arrested On DUI Complaint

Two tragic crashes within minutes of each other claimed the lives of pedestrians on Oklahoma City highways early Monday morning. The Oklahoma City pedestrian crashes shut down major roadways for several hours and resulted in one driver being taken into custody on a complaint of driving under the influence.

Both fatal incidents occurred around 1:30 a.m. on June 29 in different parts of the metro. Authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding each crash, and the identities of the victims have not yet been released pending family notification.

Police say one of the crashes involved multiple vehicles, while the second led to a DUI complaint after the driver allegedly fled the scene.

Oklahoma City Pedestrian Crashes Close Major Highways

The first of the Oklahoma City pedestrian crashes occurred on the northbound lanes of the Broadway Extension near Northeast 63rd Street.

According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, a pedestrian was attempting to cross the highway when they were struck by as many as six vehicles.

Emergency responders were dispatched after a passing motorist spotted a body lying in the roadway and called 911.

The northbound lanes of the Broadway Extension remained closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene before reopening ahead of the morning commute.

Additional traffic safety information is available through the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

Second Crash Leads To DUI Complaint

A second fatal collision happened around the same time on the southbound Interstate 35 access road near Northeast 36th Street, adjacent to Lincoln Park Golf Course.

Police say two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle. One person died at the scene, while the second victim was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Investigators said the driver initially left the scene but was stopped by officers a short time later. A witness reportedly identified the vehicle during the traffic stop, leading officers to take the driver into custody on a complaint of driving under the influence.

No formal charges have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Additional information about Oklahoma court records is available through the Oklahoma State Courts Network (OSCN).

Investigations Continue Into Both Fatal Crashes

The Oklahoma City Police Department is continuing to investigate both incidents to determine the full sequence of events.

Officials have not yet released the identities of the deceased victims as they work to notify family members.

Authorities also continue gathering evidence from both crash scenes as part of the ongoing investigations.

Police remind pedestrians to use designated crossings whenever possible and urge motorists to remain alert for people walking near roadways, particularly during overnight hours when visibility is reduced.

Additional public safety resources are available through the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office.

As investigators continue examining both incidents, the Oklahoma City pedestrian crashes serve as a tragic reminder of the dangers facing both drivers and pedestrians on Oklahoma highways.
