Two Arrested in Oklahoma City Cookout Murder Case
Two men are now facing first-degree murder complaints in connection to a deadly Oklahoma City cookout shooting that investigators say began during an argument over a hamburger.
According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, 50-year-old Erick Deshawan Edwards, Sr. was fatally shot on April 13 near Southeast 15th Street and South High Avenue.
Investigators say the deadly confrontation happened during a cookout honoring a deceased friend.
The recent arrests mark a major development in the ongoing Oklahoma City cookout shooting investigation.
Oklahoma City Cookout Shooting Began During Argument
Police affidavits say Edwards became involved in a physical argument with his stepson, Kapri Khristian Lewis, during the gathering.
Investigators say the dispute centered around a hamburger that was allegedly undercooked.
According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, Edwards later attempted to leave the area and walked toward his vehicle following the confrontation.
Police say Lewis followed him shortly afterward.
Investigators say gunfire erupted moments later, leaving Edwards with fatal injuries to his face and body.
Two Suspects Arrested in Oklahoma City Cookout Shooting
Authorities announced the arrests of Kapri Khristian Lewis, also known as “Crunch,” and Elijah Wallace Karrim Mitchell, also known as “Baby E.”
Both men were booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on first-degree murder complaints tied to the Oklahoma City cookout shooting.
Court records show both suspects are currently being held on $10 million bonds.
Investigators have not publicly released additional details regarding the alleged roles of each suspect during the shooting.
