Two Suspects Plead Not Guilty In Deadly Arcadia Lake Shooting Case

Two additional suspects charged in connection with the deadly Arcadia Lake shooting have pleaded not guilty as the criminal cases involving the May mass shooting continue through Oklahoma County District Court.

Court documents filed Monday show 19-year-old Makhi Magness and 20-year-old Hezekiah Ricks entered not guilty pleas to charges tied to the shooting, which killed 18-year-old Avianna Smith-Gray and injured more than 20 other people.

Arcadia Lake Shooting Suspects Enter Not Guilty Pleas

According to court records available through the Oklahoma State Courts Network, Magness pleaded not guilty to shooting with intent to kill, gang-related offenses and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent felony.

Ricks pleaded not guilty to accessory to first-degree felony murder.

Both suspects are being held on $500,000 bonds.

Magness and Ricks are scheduled for preliminary hearing conferences on Aug. 11. Co-defendants Jaylan Davis, Davilion Wyckoff and Breonn Morton are also scheduled to appear for preliminary hearing conferences that day.

The hearings will allow the court to review the status of the cases before determining whether enough evidence exists for the charges to proceed toward trial.

The charges are allegations, not convictions. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Police Say Gang Dispute Led To Gunfire

The Edmond Police Department said officers were called shortly after 9 p.m. on May 3 to the Scissortail Campground area at Arcadia Lake after gunfire erupted during an unsanctioned party.

Police said the gathering included young adults from across the Oklahoma City metro and that a gang-related dispute escalated into the shooting.

Investigators identified 18-year-old Jaylan Davis as the suspected shooter. According to court documents, witnesses identified Davis, and ammunition recovered from his Oklahoma City home allegedly matched ammunition collected at the Arcadia Lake crime scene.

Officials initially reported that one person was killed and 22 others were injured. Oklahoma County prosecutors have since said a total of 24 people were injured, including victims struck by gunfire or shrapnel.

Smith-Gray was injured during the shooting and died the following day.

Investigation Involves More Than 100 Witnesses

Edmond police said investigators identified more than 100 potential witnesses following the shooting and began reviewing cellphone videos, surveillance footage and statements from people who attended the party.

The large number of victims, witnesses and defendants has created an extensive investigation involving multiple criminal cases and significant amounts of evidence.

The Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office is responsible for prosecuting felony cases filed in Oklahoma County, including charges connected to the Arcadia Lake shooting.

Police have continued asking anyone with video or additional information about the shooting to contact Edmond investigators as the cases move toward the Aug. 11 court proceedings.
