Tulsa Pastor Deportation Raises Questions
The Tulsa pastor deportation of longtime church leader Wulfrano Portillo is drawing attention after he was removed from the United States earlier this month.
Portillo, who served at La Hermosa Church in Tulsa, was deported to Mexico on March 12, according to Newson6.com.
Family members say he had lived in the U.S. since the age of 16 and held a valid work permit and Social Security card.
Tulsa Pastor Deportation Follows Check-In
The Tulsa pastor deportation followed what was described as a routine immigration check-in in Oklahoma City on March 10.
Officials say the removal was tied to a 2007 removal order issued after a car accident involving Portillo and his parents, according to U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Portillo had reportedly been meeting regularly with immigration officials for years while working through pending legal applications.
Family Seeks Answers After Deportation
Following the Tulsa pastor deportation, Portillo’s family says he was dropped in a Mexican border town without money or local contacts.
His daughter says churches in Mexico have since reached out to offer support.
Media reports indicate the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has been contacted for comment regarding the circumstances surrounding his removal.
