Think Ability Ladybug Release Returns To Duncan With 40,000 Ladybugs
The annual Think Ability Ladybug Release is returning to Duncan this week, giving families a chance to experience one of southwest Oklahoma's most unique community events.
The 7th Annual Think Ability Ladybug Release is scheduled for Friday, June 26, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at The Community Garden by Think Ability Inc. located at 2109 W. Beech Avenue in Duncan.
The free event combines education, gardening, family activities, and community involvement while showcasing the work being done by individuals with developmental disabilities through Think Ability's agricultural programs.
Organizers say approximately 40,000 ladybugs will be released into the garden during the evening, creating a memorable experience for children and adults alike.
The event has grown into a popular summer tradition while highlighting the importance of sustainable gardening and community engagement in southwest Oklahoma.
Think Ability Ladybug Release Highlights Natural Gardening
The centerpiece of the Think Ability Ladybug Release is the release of thousands of ladybugs into the community garden.
Event organizers say distribution and release activities are expected to begin around 7:45 p.m.
Ladybugs play an important role in agriculture and gardening because they act as natural pest controllers. By feeding on aphids and other harmful insects, they help protect plants without the need for chemical pesticides.
Representatives from the OSU Extension Service will be on hand to teach visitors about the ladybug life cycle, beneficial insects, and sustainable gardening practices.
The educational component gives families an opportunity to learn how nature can help support healthier gardens and crops across Oklahoma.
More information about gardening education and agricultural outreach programs can be found through the Oklahoma State University Extension Service.
Family Activities Planned Throughout The Evening
The Think Ability Ladybug Release offers much more than just the release itself.
Organizers have planned several hands-on activities designed for children and families.
Visitors will be able to participate in seed planting activities, educational crafts, and interactive exhibits throughout the evening.
A vegetable tasting station will also allow guests to sample fresh produce grown directly in The Community Garden.
The event's family-friendly atmosphere has helped make it one of Duncan's most anticipated summer gatherings.
Because admission is free, organizers hope families from across the region will attend and take part in the activities while learning more about gardening, agriculture, and community involvement.
Additional information about community gardening programs can be found through the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry.
Event Showcases Think Ability's Community Mission
Beyond the educational activities, the Think Ability Ladybug Release serves as an opportunity for the public to see the organization's broader mission in action.
Visitors will be able to walk through the grounds and experience projects developed and maintained by Think Ability employees with developmental disabilities.
The event highlights the organization's integrated agricultural model, which connects The Community Garden, The Garden Café, The Garden Hub, and the Duncan Farmers Market.
Organizers say the goal is to strengthen community connections while demonstrating how agriculture, workforce development, and inclusion can work together to create opportunities for individuals of all abilities.
The annual event continues to grow as more residents discover the impact Think Ability has throughout the Duncan area.
More information about the organization's programs and services can be found through the Think Ability Inc. Official Website.
For families looking for a free summer activity, the Think Ability Ladybug Release offers a chance to enjoy the outdoors, learn about gardening, and watch 40,000 ladybugs take flight over one of Duncan's most unique community spaces.
