Things to Do This Weekend in : Music, Hamilton, Night Market and Racing

From live music and Broadway theater to horse racing, comedy and a night market, there are plenty of things to do this weekend in Oklahoma City and across the metro.

The weekend of August 21–23 includes the Red Clay Roots Music Festival, Hamilton, the popular Night Market at Scissortail Park and opening weekend at Remington Park. Families can also head west to El Reno for the Canadian County Free Fair.

Things to do this weekend in Oklahoma City include festivals and markets

The Red Clay Roots Music Festival takes over the Oklahoma City Community College Visual and Performing Arts Center Theater Friday and Saturday.

The two-day festival celebrates live music, film and Indigenous culture, bringing together artists and audiences for a uniquely Oklahoma event. Performances are scheduled for both August 21 and 22. Festival and ticket information is available through the Red Clay Roots Music Festival event listing.

Friday night also brings the Night Market at Scissortail Park, offering an outdoor evening in downtown Oklahoma City with local food, art, handmade goods and vendors.

The market gives visitors a chance to shop local while enjoying one of downtown OKC's largest public spaces. Scissortail Park has additional information about the Night Market and participating vendors.

For families willing to make the short drive west, the Canadian County Free Fair is underway in El Reno. The fair includes carnival rides, traditional fair food, exhibits and live entertainment at the Canadian County EXPO & Event Center.

Hamilton and live performances take the stage

One of Broadway's biggest productions is also in Oklahoma City this weekend.

Hamilton continues its run at the Civic Center Music Hall with weekend matinee and evening performances. The Tony Award-winning musical combines American history with hip-hop, R&B, jazz and traditional Broadway influences to tell the story of founding father Alexander Hamilton.

Country music fans have another option Saturday night with the Oklahoma Opry, featuring live performances at the ACM@UCO Live Room.

The Oklahoma Opry has been part of Oklahoma's music scene for decades and regularly features a mix of established performers and emerging Oklahoma artists.

Saturday also offers a different kind of live music experience at The Yale Theater, where a candlelight concert will feature string quartet arrangements of songs made famous by Coldplay and Imagine Dragons.

The performance combines contemporary music with an intimate candlelit setting inside the historic Oklahoma City theater.

Remington Park opens racing season

Horse racing returns to Oklahoma City this weekend as Remington Park begins its 2026 Thoroughbred season.

Opening weekend gives racing fans the opportunity to watch live Thoroughbred racing while taking advantage of trackside viewing, dining and other entertainment at the Oklahoma City racetrack.

The season continues through December, but opening weekend traditionally brings additional excitement as horses, trainers and racing fans return to the track. Visitors can find additional weekend events and entertainment through Visit Oklahoma City.

Comedy fans can also head downtown to the Bricktown Comedy Club, which has stand-up performances scheduled throughout the weekend.

Whether you're looking for live music, Broadway theater, shopping, family activities, comedy or an afternoon at the races, the August 21–23 weekend offers plenty of ways to get out of the house.

And with events spread across downtown Oklahoma City, south OKC and El Reno, there are options for just about every kind of weekend.
