Governor Stitt to Announce New Oklahoma Superintendent
Governor Kevin Stitt is expected to announce a new Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Instruction today. Multiple reports point to Lindel Fields, a retired Career Tech administrator, as the likely appointee.
The appointment will fill the remainder of Ryan Walters’ term, which runs until January 2027. Walters formally resigned last week after revealing he would become CEO of the Teacher Freedom Alliance, an anti-teacher-union nonprofit.
Education Leadership Transition in Oklahoma
The announcement will take place at Eisenhower International School. Stitt has said Oklahoma needs steady leadership after years of controversy under Walters. Education stakeholders hope the new superintendent will bring renewed focus on classroom funding, teacher recruitment, and academic performance.
Critics of Walters had argued his tenure damaged Oklahoma’s education reputation. Fields, who spent decades in Career Tech, is seen as a pragmatic administrator.
