The Oklahoma Department of Corrections has agreed to purchase the Lawton Correctional Facility, with ODOC officially taking over operations July 25th. The facility is the last remaining privately operated prison used by the state. ODOC Director Steven Harpe says the agency will work closely with current employees and local partners to ensure a smooth handover of operations. The state will pay three hundred and twelve million dollars for the facility.
