New Tribal Gaming Degree Connects Oklahoma and Nevada Students

A new academic partnership between Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) will open doors for students interested in tribal gaming and hospitality management careers.

The universities jointly announced that students can now begin coursework at Southeastern and complete their degrees at UNLV, either on campus in Nevada or through online classes.

UNLV’s William F. Harrah College of Hospitality is consistently ranked among the nation’s top programs and is known for its Tribal Education Initiative, which focuses on training future leaders for jobs in tribal enterprises, including casinos, hotels, cultural tourism, and resort management.

Focus on Tribal Workforce Development

Officials say the partnership builds on Oklahoma’s strong network of tribal businesses and tourism operations, which support thousands of jobs statewide. By combining Southeastern’s regional accessibility with UNLV’s specialized training, the program aims to prepare students for management and leadership roles within tribal economies.

Tribal gaming remains one of Oklahoma’s largest private-sector employers, contributing billions to local communities each year. Students will gain a blend of coursework in business operations, hospitality marketing, finance, and tribal governance.

University leaders say the collaboration will strengthen professional ties between Oklahoma and Nevada while helping Native and non-Native students develop skills relevant to one of the state’s fastest-growing industries.
