Richard Glossip Returns to Court After Conviction Overturned
Richard Glossip is back in court today as his decades-long legal case continues following a major ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court.
Glossip, who spent more than 30 years on Oklahoma’s death row, is scheduled for a hearing in Oklahoma County District Court. Earlier this year, the Supreme Court overturned his 1997 murder conviction related to the death of an Oklahoma City motel owner.
All Oklahoma County Judges Recused from Case
All Oklahoma County judges recused themselves from the case, prompting Chief District Judge Richard Ogden to assign Judge Natalie Mai through a random selection process. Today’s hearing marks the first proceeding under the newly assigned judge.
The recusal underscores the unusual procedural posture of the case, which has drawn national attention due to the length of time Glossip spent on death row and questions raised about evidence used at trial.
What Happens Next for Richard Glossip
While Glossip’s conviction has been overturned, prosecutors have not yet indicated whether they will retry the case. Today’s hearing is expected to address scheduling and procedural matters moving forward.
Glossip has consistently maintained his innocence.
