Point 27 Honors Fallen El Reno Officer
Tribute To Sgt. Duran’s Service And Sacrifice
Fallen El Reno Police Sgt. Thomas Duran was honored by global nonprofit Point 27 after he died from injuries sustained on-duty in a hit-and-run single vehicle crash October 24. Additionally, the organization says his sacrifice represents the highest form of selfless service to his state and community. The nonprofit mailed honor gifts directly to officers and family to recognize the loss and support those still grieving.
Gifts Delivered To Department And Family
To honor this fallen hero--Point 27 sent Thin Blue Line Shields of Strength dog-tag necklaces inscribed with Matthew 5:9 which reads, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God,” to the El Reno Police Department for Duran’s partner and the officers who served closely with him. Additionally, Point 27 also sent Keepsake Folded Flag Pendant Necklaces inscribed with John 15:13 which reads, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends,” to his family. These gifts were chosen specifically as a reminder of sacrifice, honor, gratitude, and ongoing support.
Point 27 Describes Their Mission
“We want law enforcement officers and their families to know we value them and their sacrifices, that God loves them, and that they are never alone” said Point 27 Director, US Army (Ret.) Col. Dodd.

Additionally, the organization says this work exists to strengthen families and strengthen those who serve. Their mission focuses on scripture-based strength and encouragement for law enforcement and the military.
Origins Of The Organization
According to Point 27, Col. Dodd commanded a battalion of the first troops deployed to Afghanistan following 9/11.The nonprofit states he wore a Shield of Strength inscribed with Joshua 1:9 next to his government-issued dog tags; and equipped each of the soldiers in his command with a Shield of Strength before they deployed. Additionally, the nonprofit says many service members still wear these tags today as a reminder that they are never abandoned.
According to Point 27, the face of the Thin Blue Line Shields of Strength shows an engraved silver American flag face designed with one flag stripe of metallic blue. The organization says the tag design and scripture were chosen by law enforcement officers.
Point 27 states Dodd served 27 years and four deployments in the military. Following his military retirement, the nonprofit says he founded Point 27 in 2014 to share the scripture-inscribed dog tags that encouraged him and his troops with members of the military and veterans. Additionally, the organization says it expanded outreach to include police departments, first responders, and families impacted by line-of-duty loss.
