Oklahoma Honors Fallen Police Sergeant
Residents across Oklahoma are invited to honor fallen El Reno Police Sergeant Tom Duran today. Duran died Friday after being struck by a vehicle earlier this month.
Funeral Escort and Procession Details
The Oklahoma Fraternal Order of Police announced that an honor escort will accompany Duran’s body from the State Medical Examiner’s Office to a funeral home in Kingfisher. The procession begins at 12:30 p.m.
Law-enforcement agencies from across the region will participate, lining highways with patrol cars and flashing lights. Citizens are encouraged to stand along the route in support.
Remembering a Dedicated Officer
Sergeant Duran served 14 years with the El Reno Police Department. Friends describe him as a steady leader known for mentoring younger officers.
He was struck by a vehicle while assisting a pedestrian on a busy roadway. Investigators arrested 25-year-old Logan Primeaux, who faces charges in connection with the fatal hit-and-run.
Community members have placed flowers and flags outside the El Reno police headquarters in his memory. Mayor Matt White called Duran “a model officer who put service above self.”
Tributes and Continued Investigation
The city plans to create a permanent memorial at the department’s headquarters. A fund for Duran’s family has been established through the Oklahoma FOP Foundation.
State investigators continue to gather evidence in the crash. Officials say the escort offers Oklahomans a way to honor Duran’s sacrifice and reflect on the risks officers face daily.
