OU running backs coach Deland McCullough officially announced
The OU running backs coach Deland McCullough hire is now official as the Oklahoma Sooners fill a key position on their offensive staff.
McCullough, who most recently served as running backs coach for the Las Vegas Raiders, will replace DeMarco Murray, who accepted a position with the Kansas City Chiefs. The move marks another adjustment for Oklahoma as the program continues reshaping its coaching staff.
McCullough brings 15 years of experience coaching running backs at both the college and professional levels, giving the Sooners a veteran presence in a position group that remains critical to offensive balance.
Experience at the NFL and college levels
Before his time in the NFL, McCullough built a reputation as a strong recruiter and developer of talent at the collegiate level. His background includes work with multiple Power Five programs, where he coached high-performing backfields and helped develop NFL-caliber players.
Now stepping into the OU running backs coach Deland McCullough role, he inherits a position group that has historically been one of Oklahoma’s strengths. The Sooners have produced multiple NFL running backs over the years, including Murray himself.
Transition as DeMarco Murray departs
Murray’s move to the Kansas City Chiefs creates an opportunity for McCullough to establish his own philosophy in Norman. The Sooners will look to maintain their physical ground attack while integrating new schemes under the current offensive leadership.
With recruiting cycles underway and roster development continuing, the hire provides stability heading into the next phase of Oklahoma’s offseason preparation.
